Chapter 6 — Hedging Math Explanation
Distance A / Distance B and Progressive Lot Structure
RAIDER does not treat hedging as a corrective reaction to being wrong. It treats hedging as a predefined structural response to directional uncertainty. The design begins from a non-negotiable premise: price can always move against the initial position. Any architecture that does not incorporate this possibility into its structure is not robust—it is conditional on being correct.
Hedging in RAIDER is therefore not an improvisation. It is embedded into the geometry of exposure before the first position is opened. The system does not wait to see whether price will cooperate. It defines the structural territory within which cooperation is unnecessary.
At the foundation of this structure are two measured distances: Distance A and Distance B. These are not arbitrary variables. They are spatial definitions that transform uncertainty into proportional response.
Distance A defines the interval between the initial entry and the first structural hedge boundary. It represents the first unit of adverse tolerance within a cycle. This distance is derived from observable price structure—specifically short-term reversal references—and is validated against predefined minimum and maximum thresholds. If it is too narrow, the structure becomes vulnerable to noise and repeated micro-adjustment. If it is too wide, the potential exposure violates survivability constraints. Rejection at this stage is not conservatism; it is enforcement of proportional design.
Distance A has a singular role. It defines the initial geometry of the cycle and determines the calculation of the first lot through a Fixed Fractional model based on equity. Once the initial position is established, the Fixed Fractional calculation completes its responsibility. It does not govern the remainder of the cycle. From that point forward, exposure progression is dictated by the internal structural relationship between Distance A and Distance B.
Distance B defines the recovery territory. It is not merely a Take Profit distance. It establishes the proportional slope of the entire cycle. The ratio between Distance B and Distance A determines how aggressively or conservatively exposure must evolve to maintain structural equilibrium. A larger proportional relationship produces a more relaxed lot progression. A tighter proportional relationship compresses the structure and increases density of adjustment. The ratio therefore governs behavior indirectly by defining geometry.
Once Distance A and Distance B are fixed, the market is no longer viewed as an unpredictable sequence of ticks. It is treated as movement within a predefined structural corridor. Entry defines the center of that corridor. Distance A marks the first boundary of tolerance. Distance B defines the structural objective and the outer limit of recovery.
Lot progression within this corridor is not exponential escalation. It is proportional rebalancing. When price crosses a structural boundary, hedge sizing is recalculated based on aggregate exposure rather than order count. The system does not multiply blindly. It evaluates the cumulative net exposure of Buy and Sell positions and introduces the next hedge in proportion to the defined geometry. This prevents Martingale-style acceleration where risk increases simply because previous trades exist.
In this architecture, lot size is not the primary variable. Distance is. Lot becomes a dependent variable derived from geometry and equity reference. When distances are proportionally aligned, margin usage expands in a controlled gradient rather than a vertical spike. This extends survivability without requiring directional correctness.
Importantly, Distance A is not a Stop Loss in the traditional sense. It is a decision interval. A shorter Distance A increases hedge frequency, which accelerates exposure compression and consumes margin more rapidly. A longer Distance A reduces decision frequency but increases unrealized excursion before response. The chosen interval therefore balances responsiveness against survivability. It is a structural compromise, not a tactical guess.
Distance B completes the cycle definition. When price reaches the predefined Take Profit boundary, all open positions are closed without partial discretion. When price breaches the final structural risk boundary—positioned beyond Distance B and aligned with opposing exposure—the system closes all positions without hesitation. There is no indefinite averaging. The territory of the cycle is declared at inception and cannot expand mid-execution.
Spread, slippage, and execution asymmetry are incorporated into the lot progression formula through adjustment multipliers. A hedge model that ignores transactional friction constructs theoretical equilibrium that cannot survive in live conditions. RAIDER’s calculations account for these frictions so that proportional rebalancing reflects real cost, not idealized arithmetic.
The essential distinction between RAIDER’s hedging structure and Martingale lies in control of net exposure. Martingale escalates position size as a reaction to loss. RAIDER recalculates exposure as a function of structural proportion. The objective is not to recover quickly; it is to maintain equilibrium within predefined tolerance. Exposure increases only insofar as geometry requires it and never beyond caps enforced by the Risk Engine.
Hedging, in this framework, is containment rather than defiance. It does not attempt to overpower the market. It redistributes directional imbalance across a bounded structure. Each adjustment is deterministic. Each boundary is predefined. Each cycle is finite.
The mathematics underlying Distance A and Distance B do not aim to maximize frequency of success. They aim to prevent catastrophic expansion when direction is unfavorable. Profit emerges when proportional design aligns with favorable variance. Survival persists when it does not.
In this sense, Hedging Math is not a tactic layered on top of entry logic. It is the backbone of the architecture. It converts uncertainty into measurable territory, transforms directional error into proportional response, and ensures that exposure remains governed by structure rather than by emotional escalation. When geometry defines behavior, discipline no longer depends on willpower. It is embedded in calculation.
